For years, two sisters have vied for the turf of their dead crime boss father. Across the streets of Guatemala City, bodies have piled up; the US Drug Enforcement Agency, operating far from its own borders, is powerless to stop the fighting. But now one sister has a weapon that could finally win the war - a cold, amoral hitman known, fittingly, as 'Victor'. Freed from previous employers the CIA and MI6, Victor is a killer for hire whose sense of self-preservation trumps all else. Yet as betrayal and counterbetrayal unspool in the vicious family feud, Victor finds himself at the centre of a storm even he could be powerless to stop.

United Nations Special Operations Command sent an elite expeditionary force of soldiers and pilots out on a simple recon mission, and somehow along the way they sparked an alien civil war. The ancient alien AI they nicknamed Skippy is apparently dead, and even if they can by some miracle revive him, he might never be the same.

Van Diemen's Land was an island of stark contrasts; a harsh penal colony, an English idyll for its landed gentry, and an island so rich in natural resources it was a profiteer's paradise. Its capital Hobart Town had its contrasts too; the wealthy elite in their sandstone mansions, the exploited poor in the notorious slum known as Wapping, and the criminals and villains who haunted the dockside taverns and brothels of Sullivan's Cove.

Story was good. Was a few things that were a bit unbelievable though and the reading of the recipes was really annoying!
If the recipes annoy you too I found that skipping to the next chapter works as the recipes are read at the end of each chapter.
I did feel like I connected with the characters. The narration was also very good.
Also just for your information Mr Author, the Australian abbreviation 'FIGJAM' actually stands for 'F#*k I'm Good Just Ask Me'. It's the word Good not Great! No one says F#*k I'm Great! They say F#*k I'm Good. 👍

A good listen and am looking forward to hearing the next book,,, But,,, after the first few times of hearing the recipes being read out I got pretty sick of hearing them. I understand why they are there in the story as it breaks it up a bit and refreshes your mind but they do get a bit annoying! Also I wish the narrator gave the Russian characters a Russian accent rather than American!. Got a bit confusing at times and was left wondering which character was which. But all in all it wasn't a bad book and get better the more you get into it, more particularly towards the end.
