Story
John Forbes Nash, Jr., a prodigy and legend by the age of 30, dazzled the mathematical world by solving a series of deep problems deemed "impossible" by other mathematicians. But at the height of his fame, Nash suffered a catastrophic mental breakdown and began a harrowing descent into insanity, resigning his post at MIT, slipping into a series of bizarre delusions, and eventually becoming a dreamy, ghostlike figure at Princeton, scrawling numerological messages on blackboards.

An insightful, thought-provoking masterpiece

Absorbing, fascinating, and pulls no punches. Brave too, given that the main protagonist and many other people discussed - warts and all - were alive at the time of publication and many are alive today. One thing I found a little off was the sense of homosexuality is being considered something of an aberration, although in fairness this could relate to the era being described and also the time this was written - though I don't think either of these fully cover the experience. Not to detract from the big picture though, this is a literary masterpiece. The sensitivity and detail with which paranoid schizophrenia was described, was palpably and viscerally immersive. To the performance, also very exceptional. The narrator's tone is expressive, intimate, yet still not invasive or intrusive. With just enough color to readily distinguish the key characters. Loved it!

Story
When Dr. Jim Parsons awakens after a car accident, he finds himself in a future populated almost entirely by the young. But for the young to keep running the world, death is fetishized, and those who survive to old age are put down. In such a world, Parsons - with his innate desire to save lives - is a criminal and an outcast. For one revolutionary group, however, he may be just the savior they need to heal and revive their cryogenically frozen leader.

Story
Following a devastating nuclear war, the Moral Reclamation government took over the world and forced its citizens to live by strictly puritanical rules - no premarital sex, drunkenness, or displaying of neon signs - all of which are reinforced through a constant barrage of public messages. The chief purveyor of these messages is Alan Purcell, next in line to become head of the propaganda bureau. But there is just one problem: a statue of the government’s founder has been vandalized.

Loved this, my sixth Dick novel. One of his first, and one of his best. The brilliance to construct such an artifice while in his twenties. Simply wonderful.

Story
Les Misérables is set in Paris after the French Revolution. In the sewers and backstreets, we encounter "the wolf-like tread of crime", and assassination for a few sous is all in a day's work. We weep with the unlucky and heart-broken Fantine, and we exult with the heroic revolutionaries of the barricades; but above all we thrill to the steadfast courage and nobility of soul of ex-convict Jean Valjean, always in danger from the relentless pursuit of the diabolical Inspector Javert.
