Story
Sergeant Arin Varga has a problem on her hands. She's supposed to be in charge of a squad of peacekeepers. That's something she would normally handle with ease, except that now her people are stuck in Earth's orbit on a doomed superfreighter. To make things worse, they're being held hostage by a group of very threatening, very menacing silver-skinned Kordolians, who are insistent that all they want is safe passage to Earth to kill oversized insects. One particular alien, who goes by the name of Rykal, seems be constantly getting inside her personal space.

I keep thinking these Dark Planet books will have to become boring and repetitive, but I’m happy to be proven wrong. Each one is unique and filled with action and romance. Love it!

This review is for the first five fever books. I listened to the first, loved it, then discovered the next ones weren’t available in audio in Australia! Read book two, loved it. Started to get restless with books three and four. KMM writes a lot of “introspection” with her main character Mac. This can be a bit boring and I tend to skip over it. But she also does great character development and thought-provoking introspection at the same time!
Book five finally became avail in audio and I LOVED it. Good balance of characters, action, story, and finally resolution of the romance!
I can understand why so many people love these books, but I can also understand those who struggle to get into them. They are not fast paced. They are seriously well written, in the way great literary books are written, with beautiful wording. The mc is fluffy and good, but also very smart and adaptable. Male mc is a bit of an a hole but many layered. Anyway, that’s my review. Loved them mostly but they are definitely not for everyone.

Although I’m a massive fan of Laura I’ve avoided this series because the first book is listed as YA age 11-13! INCORRECTLY listed. Although the protagonist is starting college this is not a whiney teenager read, and it gets into mature territory in later reads. I just loved this book and the whole series. Funny, sexy, a bit dark.

Story
When your mate is a Kordolian General who's betrayed the most vicious Empire in the Universe, things tend to get a little heavy from time to time. For the last six months, Tarak's had to divide his time between Earth and space, dealing with various...problems. But he's home now, and he tells me he's not going anywhere. That's good news, because our baby's on the way, and I'm dying to get out of this boring, stifling limbo they call the Diplomatic Zone.

The Solaris Empire is one conquest away from uniting the continent, and the rare elemental magic sleeping in 17-year-old library apprentice Vhalla Yarl could shift the tides of war. Stunning
Reviewed: 24-01-2020
This series is simply beautiful, with character development second to none, dipping in and out of romance, personal growth, and epic battles. The narrator of the first three books is AMAZING. I agree she narrates in a slightly monotone over prose, but interspersed with her astonishing character voices it balances perfectly. The range of voices she produces is stunning, particularly the male voices, easily recognisable from each other. She perfectly resonates Aldrick’s dark torment, and Vhalla’s growing confidence. Although the second narrator is not BAD, the loss of personality, particularly of Aldrick, was too much for me, and I downloaded the final two books to read. There are also some audio issues at times, with the audio dropping in and out.

Great book ruined by narrator
Reviewed: 15-01-2020
Laura Thalassa is one of my favourite authors. I wouldn’t normally bag a narrator but this is TERRIBLE. A drawn out downward breath at the end of each sentence. I tried to persist but gave up listening and downloaded the kindle version. I’ve now read the series and loved it. It’s a lot darker than my favourite Bargainer series, not as humorous. But still wonderful.
