The book is terrific, the Audible even better.

This was a double treat: wonderful book and a masterful narration. Totally absorbing. Loved it.

The talent and production are first class. The story is a disappointment. It has a slow start, riveting middle and suspenseful end…or at least what should have been the end. Everything that follows Offred stepping through the van doors is rubbish. The story should have ended with the van. By going further, the author falls into the sin of telling, not showing, although it is a useful device for throwing doubt onto the reliability of all, or some, of the story.

This is exquisite. Perhaps not as good as Wolf Hall, yet still sparkling in the triumph. I personally did not like the narration as much as Wolf Hall, but it is still great. Mantel can really write!
