In 1866 tragedy strikes at the exclusive Windfield School when a mysterious accident takes the life of a student. Among the student's circle of friends are Hugh Pilaster; Hugh's older cousin Edward, dissolute heir to the Pilaster banking fortune; and Micky Miranda, the handsome son of a brutal South American oligarchy. The death and its aftermath begin the spiraling circle of treachery that will span three decades and entwine many lives.

I didn't enjoy this book or the performance as much as his other works. I would not recommend this book to a friend.

From the creator of the wildly popular xkcd, What If? gives hilarious and informative answers to important questions you probably never thought to ask. Millions visit xkcd.com each week to read Randall Munroe's iconic webcomic. Fans ask him a lot of strange questions. How fast can you hit a speed bump, driving, and live? When (if ever) did the sun go down on the British Empire? When will Facebook contain more profiles of dead people than living?

Not my type of humour. It had potential to be funny or at least a little informative. Glad I bought so I could listen to it or at least partly (3hrs or so). I will return it to audible for a refund. Audio sample was the best part of the book.

You will not be disappointed with this book. It is a long book yet the end comes to soon. The pillars transports the listener to a world full of struggle and triumphs.

This was my first Ken Follett book, and have since listened to six other titles. This is the one book to start with. Enjoy!
