A great twisty-turny crime with an extremely damaged, yet likeable protagonist. I teetered on the moralities of this character's urgings reluctantly admiring observational and problem solving skills. The brainteaser riddles at the beginning of each chapter was a bonus. I'm pretty chuffed that I could solve the majority of them. Divergent thinking!

Gripping Tale

I loved the way this crime unfolded in a haphazard realistic way. I would think that detective work would be thwarted by such extenuating circumstances other reviewers complained about. Surely crimes wouldn't all be solved in a neat sequence. Enjoyed the narration and development of the characters.

Dark Emu argues for a reconsideration of the 'hunter-gatherer' tag for pre-colonial Aboriginal Australians and attempts to rebut the colonial myths that have worked to justify dispossession. Accomplished author Bruce Pascoe provides compelling evidence from the diaries of early explorers that suggests that systems of food production and land management have been understated in modern retellings of Aboriginal history, and that a new look at Australia's past is required.

What a different lens this throws on the knowledge, skills and understandings of what is clearly one of the oldest civilisations in earth - so far as to where our current understandings are at. I'll keep enjoying my kangaroo meat and will keep my eye out for our indigenous grains etc., promoting their use wherever and whenever possible. As author John Newton in his book the Oldest Foods on Earth points out we happily embrace quinoa etc when our own land abounds in food wealth.

Sensitive portrayal of a young teen who has hit rock bottom and the unlikely friendships that ensue from this incident. This meeting provides the protagonist with opportunity to shine. This story had me laughing out loud, cringing, crying and disgusted. This tender Transgender Teen's Tale is an enlightening read.

Dreadful overacting of this narration. The pace is all wrong! Seriously this performance needs deleting. Get a new narrator if you want this tale listened to. The writing felt annoying to... The only that held my attention as I persevered to listen for an hour was the back story of the Japanese sword owner fighter pilot. Will request a credit!

Story
Going from one child to two is never all that easy for a family, but when Emma's husband simultaneously fathers a third child three doors up the street, things get very tricky, very fast. No longer is it enough for Emma to be the best wife and mother - now she's trying to be the best ex-wife, and the best part-time parent to her ex's love child, and that's before she even thinks about adding a new bloke to the mix. Set in an upwardly mobile, ultra-competitive suburb, this is a funny, biting, heartwarming modern comedy.

Terrific first novel that is no way second best. Quirky, fun, heartfelt and heart-wrenching at times. A undeniably weird family set up that having seen relationships and families over the years was believable. The sassy rendition if this story by the narrator was perfect! Loved it!
