This was a lot of fun and the narrator is great. If you like noir, detective fiction and fantasy... or even one out of three... give it a try. Already downloaded the second one.

It's very atmospheric and spooky but the ending it builds up to isn't very satisfying. I don't need everything to be neatly resolved in a novel, but it just sort of comes to an abrupt end.

Starts off so promising but the ending just gets ridiculous. I love this author and the narrator was great, but ending really let it down.

This is set in the 1940s and 50s and it feels like it was written then too. There is a lot about life and politics inside posh boarding schools and university in the UK of that era. A LOT. It really dominates the book. So yeah, it's quite slow. I won't spoil it but the explanation for the horror elements, when it finally arrives, is so laughably simplistic that it wasn't really worth the wait.

The narration is good though, the story just hasn't aged very well over the years. Even good narration isn't enough to save it.

Just too slow for me. And so confusing, so many characters and story lines, maybe it would be easier to follow when reading but it wasn't for me as an audio.

I love this series so much and this one is no exception. But it's the narration that really makes this series stand out. Narrator does an amazing job.

The whole thing is an utter delight and also strangely moving at times.

Darkly disturbing is right. Good ideas but the plot was hard to follow, even though the narrator did a good job with the various characters.

The narrator is excellent in every way except for the women characters voices. There are not many in the novel, but it's so jarring, especially the American woman character's voice. It was a major distraction in those chapters.

Fun novel but somehow was not quite satisfying. I have since learned that this was originally a graphic novel, I think it might be more suited to that format than audio.
