A collection of 17 wonderful short stories showing that Tom Hanks is as talented a writer as he is an actor. A gentle Eastern European immigrant arrives in New York City after his family and his life have been torn apart by his country's civil war. A man who loves to bowl rolls a perfect game - and then another and then another and then many more in a row until he winds up ESPN's newest celebrity, and he must decide if the combination of perfection and celebrity has ruined the thing he loves.

I like Tom Hanks better as an actor. The story did not grip me and I laboured through it.

Try these ingenious, Zen-based exercises to expand your writing skills ¿ or just for fun.

If Zen is her thing, the zen-like voice that promised sanity drove me insane with its dour tone throughout. I couldn’t carry on after persevering a little more than half way. The monotone reading sent me to sleep at times and to utter frustration at others.

This book was so easy to listen to and the variety of well known Christian personalities is made more poignant because we get to hear of their sacred journeys. I am both encouraged and uplifted by the scripture verses that have clearly been a real help to these speakers and I would highly recommend this book. Now I am more mindful of looking for a life verse that God has for me - just for me - and I want to draw closer to Him as these authors and speakers have done.
