it was ok, a bit too preachy at times, but many gems of wisdom. maybe the blinkist version would get to the point a lot quicker.

Keeps you guessing to the end and sends a strong message. The author weaves a brilliant story with a very accurate account of what it is like to live in small rural community in Australia where memories are long and it's impossible to escape your past. All in all a great read.

A raw and saddly accurate depiction of the little lies we tell ourselves every day to cover up who we really are and how we are really feeling.

A story of family dysfunction and buried secrets.

This book will resonate with anyone who has questioned their own memories of childhood trauma, where family members would rather bury the truth 50 foot underground rather than break the cycle of dysfunction. A heart wrenching story of the struggle of breaking away from dominating expectation and dysfunction and the courage to question your upbringing, your parents, your faith and your memories. An amazing true story that highlights the dysfunction that goes on inside families and behind closed doors and the false masks we wear to disguise the truth from ourselves and the rest of society, because for some crazy reason it's easier to live the lie than to stand up for what is real, right and wrong.

You never know a persons story. We need more compassion in our world. Sometimes we cannot see the love and support that is really surrounding us. Healing and happiness is possible.

this book sucks you in to the world of Eli Bell with his exquisite interpretation of his universe. I realise I have been giving away 5 stars too flippently, this is the best book I have read in many years. one to listen to again and again.
