My own history with the issues covered in this great read caused me to have to stop and reflect at times on my own journey of acceptance and recovery. This book took longer than normal to read because of this fact. It's worth spending the time thinking about the words, Roxane's journey and if this resonates with the reader, then my advice is to stop and reflect.
This book was not a story as such, but more of a collection of little stories made into a book. It is deeply personal and had many meanings to me. It's the first time as a larger women moving through the world that I've ever heard someone write/say what I'd always been thinking.
What this memoir really did for me, was show that one life event for a person can change their direction and life course forever! I knew this, but I always thought that it was often many traumatic events that lead to this kind of fundamental change in a person's trajectory in life. It's not, and as a community services worker, this is so important to realise.
Thank you Roxane for having the courage to be open enough for us who cannot speak our truths yet, to explore the possibilities of speaking our truths.

Thank you for your honesty, vulnerability and wisdom Brene!

Tara produced a great book with loads of perspective. It was heavy on the statistics in the first chapter or so, but I feel this was needed to build the basis of referral for the rest of the book. I really enjoyed learning and overall, I will continue to speak out. Even when it 'doesn't look good for me'. Thank you Tara.

Loved this. Well worth a credit even though it was a small book.

Biggest learning came from the SFD's we tell ourselves every day. Shitty first drafts that we believe to be true. Very toxic. This hook has helped me get through these moments better and see when others are doing it too.

Despite the name, which scared me first. It's a very broad term for all walks of life. I didn't let the Atheist in me be deterred.

As always, I thank Brene for doing her own audio. She is compelling, honest and damn real. I just wish she'd voice a couple of her other books too. I deliberately haven't got them yet because it doesn't feel right listening to such intimate work coming from another woman's voice.

Most memorable moment: Women are allowed to be angry.

I enjoyed the line that Clem used from an English movie that went something like: that's the way it should be, you're not a hero for treating your family and wife with respect, equality and dignity.

Well written, performed and I'm looking forward to a follow up in a few years time. Thank you.

Enjoyable, entertaining and enlightening! Best book I have read in ages. The author has written very, very well and the narrator was easy to listen to and brought the book to life! Read it today, you won't be disappointed.
