Story
Aboard the small trading ship Moray, Earl Dumarest headed into the Web, a region of space twisted and wrenched out of shape by the dense remnants of dead suns. He had no money, no goal, and no tomorrow - only his memories and an undying hope. Somewhere in the vastness of the galaxy he would find the person who could hear his question: "Have you heard of a planet called Earth?" - and answer, "Yes."

Love this series. Have all the paperbacks but do like listening to these. Perhaps would be better value if they combined a few books together to get closer to a "proper" book length.

Story
Epic, entertaining, blasphemous, this is the most influential and controversial of Science Fiction novels. Stranger in a Strange Land caused uproar when it was first published as it savaged conventional religious, sexual, and social ideals. Many years in the future, Valentine Michael Smith's upbringing is exceptional. Orphan child to two astronauts killed in space, he is raised on Mars. Twenty-five years later he is "rescued" and brought back to Earth. The initial enthusiasm of the administration in Smith's safe return is soon dampened by the realisation that they cannot control him.

Truly a classic

I have read the paperback version of this book many times and I always get something new from it. It is not my favourite Heinlein novel - "The Moon is a harsh mistress" is. However, "Stranger in a strange land" has a lot going for it. Although some of the technology has been overtaken by current events, it rises some important social questions and Heinlein easily switches from right-wing to left wing ideas. Some of the dialogue is a bit clunky, but overall well written Well worth a listen, if you remember that it was written in 1961.

Never read/listened to anything by this author and I was very pleasantly surprised by this title. The author takes a great deal of care explaining the science behind the fiction in this story, which I personally like. The characters are also well detailed and the plot develops nicely. Will have a look at other titles by him.

Harlan Coben always seems to turn out good mystery books. This is no exception. A couple of stereotypical characters in a midst of otherwise well-drawn characters and a plot full of twists and turns.

With any collection you expect some great, some middling and some not-so-good. John Scalzi in my opinion can do no wrong and I bought this book because he was in it. A couple of other stories were pretty good and to be honest a couple I had to abandon, which is very rare for me. Anyway, it's a good way to check out new authors to see if you like them or not. But again, I'm others will like the stories I didn't.

Story
In Riversend, an isolated country town brought to its knees by endless drought, a charismatic and dedicated young priest steps out of his church and calmly opens fire on his congregation, killing five parishioners before being shot dead himself. A year later, troubled journalist Martin Scarsden arrives in Riversend to write a feature on the anniversary of the tragedy. But the stories he hears from the locals about the priest and incidents leading up to the shooting don't fit with the accepted version of events his own newspaper reported in an award-winning investigation.

I'm not usually a fan of Australian novels about the "bush", but this looked interesting. So glad i bought it. I've been out a lot in the area described by the author and the characters, places and climate ring very true. However, authenticity isn't good enough to hold your interest, whereas this book also has a good plot and some interesting characters. The descriptions of the shops and bush firemen were spot on. Highly recommended.

I very nearly didn't buy this book, but was very glad I did, I love Peter Clines, but the plot, basically "Zombies in space" looked a bit cheesy. However, this well written and far from the usual walking dead shockers. Interesting plot, good characters and a good performance from the narrator. Well worth a listen
