The Late Show
- By: Michael Connelly
- Narrated by: Katherine Moennig
- Length: 9 hrs and 22 mins
A compelling thriller introducing a driven young detective trying to prove herself in the LAPD. Renée Ballard works the night shift in Hollywood, beginning many investigations but finishing none as each morning she turns her cases over to day shift detectives. A once up-and-coming detective, she's been given this beat as punishment after filing a sexual harassment complaint against a supervisor.
The narrator drove me crazy.....

new girl in town
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
I found the lead character unlikable and she may be a strong female lead, but she bordered on the ignorant and pushy.
What was most disappointing about Michael Connelly’s story?
It was somewhat predictable but did have welcome twists. It was quite slow to start and I think the back story would have been easier to embrace had Renee been more likeable. Just couldn't connect with Renee
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The narrator's voice was OK but was slightly non engaging which didn't help me like the lead character. Lacked a bit of energy
You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Michael Connolly is a good story teller and given his long history of great novels, he has the capacity to redeem Renee in future novels.
Any additional comments?
Can only get better
