Story
When married couple Fern and Aiden have a windfall, their reactions could not be more different. While Fern is content to pay off their mortgage and build a nest egg before starting a family, her husband is set on travelling the world. Fern’s not much of a backpacker so, before she knows it, the idea of a ‘marriage gap year’ takes shape. And, as Aiden heads off to the wilds of Australia, Fern chooses the more restful Provence for her year out.

Story
Margaret, Duchess of Argyll (1912-1993) was an international celebrity in her youth. But in 1963, the year of the Profumo Affair, the 11th Duke of Argyll shocked the country when he alleged that his adulterous wife had slept with over 80 men behind his back. The duke won a divorce, and Margaret was abandoned by most of her friends. Lyndsy Spence tells a tragic story of the life and downfall of this fascinatingly complex woman, and shows how she fell victim to a cruel husband, harsh social mores, and an unforgiving class.

This book.... what a life one woman can live. What was she seeking she already had the money. Yes I understand the hunger for a title but really. This book stirred anger and frustration in me and yes I could not put it down. She had so much money and her last years had none. She the most extraordinary life socialising with most extraordinary people, travelling in the most extraordinary style. A real life lived in an era of conservativeness. Wow wow and wow. This story will stay with me for a while now.

A Book That has Left Me Puzzled

As usual with Michael Robotham’s books I couldn’t put it down. The storyline is very relatable due to news items that have surfaced recently.
It will be very interesting to read other reviews in regard to the narration. I found it so annoying.... chapter 3 stays in my mind but all through the book the different voices were distracting to the point that I was going to stop listening to the book.
