Galway 1993: Young Garda Cormac Reilly is called to a scene he will never forget. Two silent, neglected children - 15-year-old Maude and five-year-old Jack - are waiting for him at a crumbling country house. Upstairs, their mother lies dead. Twenty years later, a body surfaces in the icy black waters of the River Corrib. At first it looks like an open-and-shut case, but then doubt is cast on the investigation's findings - and the integrity of the police. I didnt enjoy this book as much as others I have listened to. I found the readers 'mans' voice a little off putting.
Being a child of the 60's, I did enjoy the references to the era for which it was written for.

One of the saddest stories Ive listened to. The atrocities our fathers and mothers suffered at the hand of adults who were supposed to protect them is sickening and so very sad. This is a historical novel about real life events. Thank you, Lesley, for shining a light on the stories that could very well be one of the most evil truths in our current past.
