Quite slow and hard to believe

I quite enjoyed the first book in the series, so thought I'd give the second one a go. Unfortunately the plot was difficult to believe (dramatic in a B-grade Hollywood kind of way) and I found it quite slow and arduous in some places. I also didn't think the narrator's voice/accent suited the main character. I kept getting distracted because it didn't hold my attention.

Good plot but slow in parts

There's something very unique about this story and it is beautifully written in parts. However, I found myself wishing it would move a little faster at some points. Particularly the first third of the book which was quite slow and didn't completely hold my attention. The central characters were skillfully built and their dialogue was believable, however, I found I didn't really care enough about what happened to them in the end. I did enjoy it overall and thought the writing was very visual and compelling in parts, however, couldn't give it 5 stars. The narrator did a good job distinguishing between different voices - easy to distinguish who was speaking and great tone/accents for each character.

Best yet

I've enjoyed every book in the series, although some were 4stars for me not 5 like this one. This was the best so far. Lead characters are beautifully crafted and internal monologue is believable. Story has conflict and suspense beautifully crafted, with great twists - not too sudden or unbelievable. Loved it.
