Story
This fundamental historical question and its complex answer speak penetratingly to the spiritual impulses, concerns, and beliefs that have played a seminal role in our world, even as they reveal the foundation of historyβs most global religious movement, and fresh insights into the Western world's single most influential human being. Tackling all of these matters and more, Great Courses favorite Professor Ehrman returns with the unprecedented historical inquiry of How Jesus Became God.

Story
Since September 11, 2001, the Western world has been preoccupied with Islam and its role in terrorism. Yet, public debate about the faith is polarized. One camp praises "the religion of peace", while the other claims all Muslims are terrorists. Canadian human rights activist Yasmine Mohammed believes both sides are dangerously wrong. In Unveiled: How Western Liberals Empower Radical Islam, Yasmine speaks her truth as a woman born in the Western world yet raised in a fundamentalist Islamic home. Despite being a first-generation Canadian, she never felt at home in the West.

Eating is an indispensable human activity. As a result, whether we realize it or not, the drive to obtain food has been a major catalyst across all of history, from prehistoric times to the present. Epicure Jean-Anthelme Brillat-Savarin said it best: "Gastronomy governs the whole life of man."

interesting summary of a complex theme
Reviewed: 26-07-2020
The author/narrator shows his mastery I the area during all the lectures: shows an incredible amount of knowledge and enthusiasm for the subject that is contagious, however there are certain aspects where he muddles the subject too much, for example when commenting the food restrictions of early Christian or the changes imposed during the Reform, when in his desire to make the subject clear makes it harder to follow. Additionally, shows an interesting partiality towards the organic movements and against GMOs in the late lectures. Nevertheless, I consider this course as an excellent corner stone to learn more Simon the subject.

Story
Even today, the influence of Ancient Rome is indelible, with Europe and the world owing this extraordinary empire a huge cultural debt in almost every important category of human endeavor, including art, architecture, engineering, language, literature, law, and religion. At the peak of its power, Rome's span was vast. In the regional, restless, and shifting history of continental Europe, the Roman Empire stands as a towering monument to scale and stability, unified in politics and law, stretching from the sands of Syria to the moors of Scotland. And it stood for almost 700 years. In this series of 48 spirited lectures, you'll see how a small village of shepherds and farmers rose to tower over the civilized world of its day and left a permanent mark on history. In telling Rome's riveting story, Professor Fagan draws on a wealth of primary and secondary sources, including recent historical and archaeological scholarship, to introduce the fascinating tale of Rome's rise and decline, including the famous events and personalities that have become so familiar: . Horatius at the bridge . Hannibal crossing the Alps during Rome's life-or-death war with Carthage . Caesar assassinated before a statue of his archrival Pompey . The doomed lovers Antony and Cleopatra . The mad and venal emperors Nero and Caligula . The conversion of Constantine The course also addresses one of history's greatest questions: Why did the Roman Empire fall? And you'll learn why most modern scholars believe that the empire did not "fall" at all, but, rather, changed into something very different-the less urbanized, more rural, early medieval world.

Good course with some issues.
Reviewed: 16-04-2020
In general terms, this is a good course but it bothered me that the lecturer kept saying he didn't have time to cover x subject in depth. To be honest, you don't expect that from an audiobook even if it is similar to a course in an university. Sometimes the lecturer made pauses that made me check whether the app had an issue. However, the course was a pretty good introduction to Roman history, covering a long time, from the foundation to the third century crisis.

Story
For the handful of scattered Jedi, survival is imperative if the light side of the Force is to be protected and the galaxy somehow, someday reclaimed. Yet more important still is the well-being of the twin infants, Leia and Luke Skywalker, the children of Anakin and his doomed bride, Padme Amidala. Separated after Padme's death, they must be made safe at all costs, lest the hope they represent for the future be turned to horror by the new Sith regime, and the unspeakable power of the dark side.

The story does not ad much to the Star Wars lore but offers some glimpses into Anakin's mind and how he accepts his role as Darth Vader, Sith apprentice and empire enforcer but makes Shryne a much better character. It is entertaining but not the best from James Luceno. On the other hand, the narration is excellent, really enjoyable from the sound effects to the characterization of the narrator.

In the New York Times best-seller Darth Bane: Path of Destruction, Drew Karpyshyn painted a gripping portrait of a young manβs journey from innocence to evil. That man was Darth Bane, a twisted genius whose iron will, fierce ambition, and strength in the dark side of the Force made him a natural leader among the Sith - until his radical embrace of an all-but-forgotten wisdom drove him to destroy his own order...and create it anew from the ashes.

Twenty years have passed since Darth Bane, reigning Dark Lord of the Sith, demolished the ancient order devoted to the dark side and reinvented it as a circle of two: one Master to wield the power and pass on the wisdom, and one apprentice to learn, challenge, and ultimately usurp the Dark Lord in a duel to the death. But Baneβs acolyte, Zannah, has yet to engage her Master in mortal combat and prove herself a worthy successor. Determined that the Sith dream of galactic domination will not die with him, Bane vows to learn the secret of a forgotten Dark Lord that will assure the Sithβs immortality - and his own.

I had read the to previous books and wanted to conclude the trilogy. Being a bit disappointed by the previous two, and not very engaged by the beginning of the book, I have to say this one was the best in the trilogy: great pace and action, and an excellent description of the Sith philosophy added by Darth Bane. A really enjoyable adventure. The narrator spiced the story in a perfect way, adding excitment and emotion at right time in the right place.

This book introduced me to the history of Rome when I was younger. It was a pleasure to listen it again in it's original language, appreciating the author opinion and vision, and comparing it with more recent works on the subject. It was great, even when I didn't agree with some of his opinions. I strongly recommend this book to whoever's wants to start the journey through Roman history.
Regarding the narration, this was done clear with enough emotion and gusto but compared with others I've listened a bit monotone. Nevertheless, the narrator fulfills his job very well.

Ancient Rome matters. Its history of empire, conquest, cruelty and excess is something against which we still judge ourselves. Its myths and stories - from Romulus and Remus to the rape of Lucretia - still strike a chord with us. And its debates about citizenship, security and the rights of the individual still influence our own debates on civil liberty today. SPQR is a new look at Roman history from one of the world's foremost classicists.

The prose is easy to follow, and entertaining, and covering several aspects about the Roman civilization not always covered by more traditional book. The comparison between what classical authors tell us and what archeology has found is simply fascinating.
Regarding the narration, this was done in a tone according with the subject and with an excellent tone, always keeping the listener interested in what comes next.
