Another great listen...

As with Graham’s first book, this one does not disappoint. Ride along on an adventure as exotic to most of us as an Eskimo at a beach party, yet as familiar as the sense of uncertainty we can all relate to when faced with saving face or setting our own agenda.

Story
“Well, now I’m committed,” he thought to himself after telling a national TV game show audience that he wanted to ride a motorcycle to Mongolia with his winnings. He felt the fear that commitment always induced in him; he was hoping they might have edited that bit out. Commitments are something he tried to get as far away from as possible, the only other constants in his life being twenty-five years of financial prudence, travel and motorcycle obsession. So there he was, committed to going very, very far on a motorcycle with his meager prize money. Consequently, he spent a winter on eBay and a spring in the garage preparing his $1000 KLR 650 for an uncertain life on the road.

Real and raw adventure travel
Reviewed: 09-03-2019
Having read Graham’s books, to relive his real and sometimes raw adventure travel story told in his own words is fantastic. Relived through his travel diary it is far from a daily account of the mundane. Highly recommend for lovers of adventure motorcycling and travel alike.

Story
Sam Manicom's dynamic fourth book is an enticing yet frequently challenging motorcycle journey across the dramatic landscapes of Mexico, the United States and Canada. Sam's partner Birgit is no longer a novice motorcyclist - riding through southern Africa and South America turned her into a rider capable of facing any challenge. But Sam was worried. As they arrived into North America they had been travelling around the world by motorcycle for six years and he was beginning to think that North America was going to be easy; too easy in fact.

Any additional comments?
Do yourself a favor, if you haven't listened to the first 3 of Sam's books - what are you doing with your life! Once again, listening to Sam's own telling of his round the world journey is just amazing. The people, the places and Sam's unique insights into the world of adventure travel is such a pleasure. I so often re-listen to Sams travel when i need some reassurance that the world is not all about the 9 to 5 and that not all people are just in it for themselves. This last installment is another testament to what adventure travel is about and the only disappointing part is that it's the final chapter of such an inspirational journey.

You could be forgiven for thinking that you might start to feel tired of Sam's story after the first 2 books, but i was absolutely champing at the bit for the release date of Distant Suns. If you loved the first 2 books as much as I did, you will not be disappointed by this latest edition of Sam's travels.

Once again, Sam continues with his inspirational journey, told in his own words. Taking on a journey that so very few people in the world have taken on and sharing his stories from the road without the slightest hint of ego or elitism is truly a wonderful experience to listen to. Despite adversities, the human spirit prevails and Sam seems to find a way to see the positives in almost every situation, and savours the experience for every thing its worth. if you need a reason to believe the world is not the scary place it can be portrayed at times, just listen to Sam's story and it might just restore your faith in mankind a little.

At first I was apprehensive to say the least, this was the first audio book of this type i had listened to and wasn't sure i'd make it though the day by day run through of ' here i am, heres what i'm seeing' but boy was i wrong!. Sam's stories are so engaging and well written that you're so quickly drawn into the story it's hard not to start thinking you're along for the ride with him. So much more than just a motorbike story, this is very much a story about people and experiences with the human spirit. The fact that Sam tells teh story in his own words and voice just adds to the experience. Well work a listen and highly recommended.
