As the heading suggests, it was funny at times, but pussy and banging jokes get a little old after a while. also I couldn't hear everything well due to very loud moments compared to the whispering. Over all it was a fun listen for a road trip.

Sadly just meh

DNF. I am actually returning this one with 2 hours from the end. Yep, I give in.

The characters are one dimensional without an ounce of development in sight.
So many unexplained "...ummm because"'s thrown in there (eg: girls just go away and get married or study?? You survived in the wood.... for no reason)
Author tells, doesn't show (eg, what i am doing now)
And to be honest... i ... just... don't ... care.

The narrator has a beautiful voice though!!

Very interesting

The reason this book has lost a star might be my own fault. Every time I delve into books like this, I always expect it to feature more of the occupation and experiences, less the author's own thoughts and opinions. I fall for it every time... Maybe one day I will learn.
I did find the story interesting, especially the change in her during her occupational journey. Worth a listen.

DNF.
Patronising, cherry-picking facts and information without actually going in depth about what it actually entails to be "middle income" ($2 a day) among other things, and just imagine how 'lucky' all those females are who finished primary school?! I don't think I could even do my 2x tables when I finished year 6, let alone be taught many vital ideas. I could go on and on, but I thought I would keep my annoyed ramblings to myself. Maybe, because I scored 10/13 from his "all impressive" quiz, this book wasn't aimed at me.
I will be returning this

Fluff... funny fluff sometimes, but mostly just dribble. I don't know if it was because the main character was so shallow, or because for the longest time, nothing seemed to happen in the book.
I found if difficult to care about Amy who to seemed so commercial, plastic and superficial. Maybe it was because I am one of those women she continuously insults, who enjoy aging with dignity, rather than become a botoxed mutton-dressed-as-lamb affair.

What really brought this book down was the male narrator. As another reviewer has already mentioned, he did not get the emotion correct at all. He made everyone sound silly, sarcastic and stupid. The female narrator was fine, but lacking in emotion too at times.
The story was ok. It was disturbing, but that was what I was after. I just found that the characters weren't particularly believable nor were their reactions. I was expecting more from so many rave reviews on good reads. Oh well.

It wasn't great, but it wasn't bad.

There is no doubt that everything within this book is truly terrifying, but I have also have a friend who was telling me about a book called "An Auschwitz Doctor's Eyewitness Account: The Tall Tales of Dr. Mengele's Assistant Analyzed" which claims that Nyszli is "either an extraordinary impostor or a lunatic".... So I was unable to take the recount of the ordeal as complete truth... Nor do I discredit everything said.... I am sure there is a grey area in the middle of these two books where the facts/truth actually lies.

This book feel like Marsden ran out of ideas and just needed a filler. I am looking forward to the next one and hope it is better.
I also feel as though Ellie should be maturing a little more than is written (man she is irritating).
As usual, the narrator was pretty bad.

I am practical to a fault, and I don't enjoy stories where the main character is a twit.
This was not the case as so many other romance/crime/mystery novels. I felt like the protagonist was a level headed woman who was more than capable, if a little wise beyond her years, but I suppose her background accounts for that. I really enjoyed listening to this easy-reading book.

I have to admit (and this won't be popular) but this book is just another Holocaust novel/story in so much that it sounds similar to many others. It was nice to hear the end note from the author though.
The audio was an issue for me. The performance was good, but switches between "takes"/readings extremely frequently, which means the narration doesn't flow. I counted it once just for the hell of it and there was 10 times in less than a minute. I could never get used to the book as it couldn't flow.
