I'll Be Gone in the Dark
- One Woman's Obsessive Search for the Golden State Killer
- By: Michelle McNamara
- Narrated by: Gabra Zackman, Gillian Flynn - introduction, Patton Oswalt - afterword
- Length: 9 hrs and 44 mins
For more than 10 years, a mysterious and violent predator committed 50 sexual assaults in Northern California before moving south, where he perpetrated 10 sadistic murders. Then he disappeared, eluding capture by multiple police forces and some of the best detectives in the area. Three decades later, Michelle McNamara, a true crime journalist who created the popular website True Crime Diary, was determined to find the violent psychopath she called the Golden State Killer. Michelle pored over police reports, interviewed victims, and embedded herself in the online communities that were as obsessed with the case as she was.
Was ok - Too much autobiography - Not enough case

Didn't hit the mark
I often found myself trying too fast forward the bits about the authors life. There just seemed to be too much of it. Then there was a period where there was talk about 5 or 6 different serial rapists using their multiple "monikers" given to them by the press that just became confusing. It just didn't flow well. With 6 hours remaining I stopped listening.

get through the 1st hour then it is OK
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
It was OK .... It took a bit of time to engage me .... Took ages to warm to or even understand the main character.
Who was your favorite character and why?
None really ... difficult to engage with them
What three words best describe Kevin T. Collins’s voice?
Ok... Passable ...Annoying....
If this book were a film would you go see it?
Any additional comments?
You really need to get through the 1st hour to 90 minutes and then it starts to improve. The main character is a pain in the butt with all his neurotic foibles....
