Butchered narration and story

This is supposed to be set in Australia. But the narrator sounds like a New Zealander who’s lived in England. It does not fit at all. Are there no Australian narrators available? Added to that, the text has either been written or edited to sound American! Words and phrases like gas station, a car's trunk, police captain, cell phone. Seriously? Once again, they don’t fit and sound alien in this context. Add to that unbelievable characters and police brutality that might have been accepted 50 years ago but would be impossible now and you have one highly forgettable, irritating novel.

I loved the content of the book but the narration is hideous. Not just every sentence but every phrase finishes with a falling inflection, making him sound thoroughly bored - and boring. It was so painful that I returned the book and bought the Kindle edition.

Interesting story and reasonable narration except for the total BUTCHERING of the pronunciation of WA names - Mandurah, Cockburn etc, etc. Just a little research would have fixed these cringeworthy mistakes.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

This sounds like the basis for a good story, but NOT an audio book. If I was reading it I would skip over the pages and pages of waffly descriptions of trees, houses, all sorts of things that constantly hold up the action. But I can't do that with audio. Almost put me to sleep on long commutes. Just plain irritating - shut up waffling and get on with the story!

A good rolling story, but a few strange things 1) the narrator sounded like an English person putting on a fake Aussie accent. 2) weird use of some Americanisms like "hood" of a car and -cringe! - "dove" instead of dived. 3) The MOST drug free places in Australia are mine sites!
