I read the book in almost one sitting. The writing is easy and carries you along. The only jarring point was the name of the main character's daughter. As this is an audio book I do not know the spelling, but the narrator said 'July' - as in the month after June - which does not sound natural and jarred right up until the end. This was the only fault for me. Otherwise it is a great read.

The twist at the end was a complete surprise. The author had me faithfully tuned-in to the initial premise and I did not have an inkling of the truth. This is the most enjoyment I have got out of a book for a while. Recommended.

I originally read this book when it was a best seller. Naturally it was eons better than the movie. Now, listening to the story is much more enjoyable than doing battle with all the foreign names etc so I was able to enjoy it even more. I might just look into the authors other books in the far east. Truly epic.

I could not put this book down. Read it in two sittings, it was so good. The end twist was a complete surprise. I hope this author has another book up her sleeve. Can't wait.

This was a really well thought- out novel. It was hard to put down and the ending was emotional and satisfying on many levels. I will be looking for more good reads from this author.

I listened to this in two sittings as the story was intriguing. I would have preferred that the ending was final, rather than it being left open for a sequel (?). Also, the narrator was good for the most part but she made glaringly obvious mispronunciations of some words which I found jarring to the ear.

Perhaps the translation?

The general plot is good but there are quite a few changes in POV within chapters which I found irritating. Better chapter allocation may improve this, perhaps?

I was disappointed with this book after enjoying every previous novel by this author. Just a tad too many changes in point of view, I think.

I found that the characters did not seem real enough in their roles, somehow. They seem to lack depth; at times inconsistant. I feel that perhaps a bit of tweaking would have really made it shine.

i had the urge to close this book due to boredom right at the beginning. i persevered even though the story was lackluster and i was almost resigned to the fact that it would not improve. Not sure my time couldn't have been better spent.
