Downloaded as a freebie editor's Pick thinking 'nothing to lose'. Well, it was one of the most enjoyable books I've listened to. I grew up in '70s Australia so much of the imagery was wonderfully familiar and nostalgic. I love the way the author wove the memories of childhood with the dramatic, dangerous underworld of adulthood. Loved it.

great to hear Tim's life story I'm his own words, I'm his own voice. Interesting to learn many of the characters and incidents in his novels come from his own life. Loved it.

I would have preferred a young male narrator but the story didn't really suffer. I love Winton's ability to see so much in the ordinary and his ability to transport you to within the story. I especially love his use of Aussie vernacular which just reinforces the authenticity.

Winton writes so evocatively and with such visual clarity that you feel part of the story. Brilliant.
