It was wonderful to listen to a story of the Republic and the Jedi at the height of their power. Marc Thompson’s performance, as always, was brilliant

Engaging at times but hyper-masculine
Reviewed: 02-09-2020
Some moments of this book were very entertaining and the narrator was great. However the plot was overly repetitive - Gus would do something dumb and macho (hence the hyper-masculine criticism), get into a huge amount of trouble and somehow extract himself from it by doing something super macho. Tedious. Also totally unrealistic - someone prone to such dumbassery wouldn’t have survived as long as Gus is supposed to have done. This realisation every time he does something stupid really detracts from the tale.

In August of 1914, the British ship Endurance set sail for the South Atlantic. In October, 1915, still half a continent away from its intended base, the ship was trapped, then crushed in the ice. For five months, Sir Ernest Shackleton and his men, drifting on ice packs, were castaways in one of the most savage regions of the world.

Remarkable story of adventure, hardship and resilience against all the odds
Reviewed: 12-06-2020
Initially the thought of hearing about a group of men being stranded on islands of ice for months on end sounds dull - but both the author and the narrator elevate the mundane into truly heroic acts of resilience and human spirit, such that it’s almost nail-bitingly intense at times. An absolutely remarkable story of a group of remarkable men - Shackleton shines but so too do the rest of his team. A wonderful story of human Endurance

Great follow up to the first book (Red Sparrow). Apart from the main characters, the other characters are a bit 2D (either good or evil)but I like that they all get a bit of a backstory. Love the bits of the story where they engaged in spy-stuff - so fast paced and action packed!

Well fleshed out protagonists. Antagonists all a bit same same - characters not as complex. However, a gripping story with lots of detail and moments that will leave you shaking your head, admiring the spycraft that this author has masterfully written

Great story and plot. Some of the characters very annoying but the main protagonists were characters you could sympathize with. Performance was odd in that they chose an American voice actor for British characters in a story set in Britain...
