Story
Defeated, crushed, and driven almost to extinction, the remnants of the human race is trapped on a planet that is constantly attacked by mysterious alien starfighters. Spensa, a teenage girl living among them, longs to be a pilot. When she discovers the wreckage of an ancient ship, she realizes this dream might be possible - assuming she can repair the ship, navigate flight school, and (perhaps most importantly) persuade the strange machine to help her. Because this ship, uniquely, appears to have a soul.

don't get me wrong I did enjoy this book but nowhere near as much as my first experience with ready player One this is more a catch up with old friends so if you're a fan of ready player One you will enjoy getting the spend more time with your friends unfortunately the bar was set so high ready player One any sequel had a tough job competing.

Story
From the Audie-nominated narrator of The Martian. In eleven years' time, a million members of an alien race will arrive at Earth. Years before they enter orbit, their approach will be announced by the flare of a thousand flames in the sky, their ships' huge engines burning hard to slow them from the vast speeds needed to cross interstellar space. These foreboding lights will shine in our night sky like new stars, getting ever brighter until they outshine even the sun, casting ominous shadows and banishing the night until they suddenly blink out.

slow start but an exciting and brilliant end

this story was definitely tough to get into listen to the first hour probably 2 or 3 times before I continued on. the reading style made it difficult to identify different characters and even complete scene changes in the story although this did change around the half-way mark. it was read more like a 1960s detective novel rather than a science fiction invasion story. the story itself is extremely complex if you have a science or computer background you will truly appreciate the level of detail. Even though it took me a while to get into this story I'm busting to get onto the next novel.

this way longer than it should have to get throughas as a massive fan I've been generally disappointed in the last two books. I thought Star Wars of the cinemas 10 children named after Star Wars characters and loved all the movies with the last Jedi as an exception. this series feels like filler it has nothing to do with the main storylines or characters and it was kind of boring I can't see myself listening to the final book in this series even though I already own it. I've read over 30 Star Wars novels over the years and this is definitely one of the worst.
