Good story, keeps you thinking. In my view the characters could have been more developed, I felt like I wanted to get to know them better. But overall it was a good book, I enjoyed it. Narrator is excellent.

Glad I read it!

To be honest, if it wasn’t for the fact that this book was the editor’s pick, I probably would not have noticed it. But I’m glad I did. This is such an important book to read, as I’m sure other books on this topic are too. It really makes you think, especially in times where people think opinions are facts and that you can just say anything you want on social media because you’re anonymous. If you have kids on social media: have them read this!

Great story, builds up really nice, makes you guess and wonder. But the narrator really makes this purchase complete, such a soothing and beautiful voice. Really enjoyed it.

I thought this was a very good read. The character development is really well done. The fact that the story switches between the two women gives it a very nice touch. Very well written. Can definitely recommend.

I wouldn’t say this was an incredibly captivating story, but it was entertaining and I enjoyed listening to it. Personally I also really enjoy listening to an Irish accent so that was a plus too.

I was almost wishing that my commute wasn’t over yet because I wasn’t done listening and I didn’t want to stop. Very well narrated, really captivating story, good character development (consistent with book 1). Will look forward to more books from this series!

Where do I begin? I managed to get through this book on the third attempt. It just didn’t grasp me and I think the only reason why I went back to it, is because it has won so many awards, that I thought “this has to turn into something better”. Well, it did, but probably after 5 hours something finally happened. This book drags and drags and draaaaaaaags. It drags in the overall story line, it drags in the character development and most of all it drags out the details. Like, “The sky was blue. Blue like a blueberry. Blue like a lagoon. Blue like an Iris. Blue like a smurf” Yes, we get it! The sky is blue!! Move on with the story! And when something finally happened, it was enjoyable for an hour and then went back to it’s boring dragging self. None of the characters really develop that you start to love them, or know them. And then, the narrator! His voice is like the Australian version of Joe Pesci’s character in Lethal Weapon (Leo Getz) which is just annoying to listen to. The story is sad and could have been a great story about a boy who develops from a criminal family into a successful journalist but with the poor character development, incredibly disappointing ending (what was that??), dragging story telling and bad narrator there are just too many “no’s” for me.

I read this book years ago and decided to listen to it this time around. I just couldn’t really get used to the narrator’s voice, he was just a bit creepy, which may suit the story, but I didn’t particularly warm to him. The story remains great though, it really makes you think.

Even though it was enjoyable, I think the characters in this book could have been more developed. I didn’t really feel a connection and it became a bit predictable in the end. But I think on some levels it was a story that a lot of people can relate to. I think everybody either is or has a Queenie in their life.
