I enjoy the series and was excited when this book dropped. It’s about 20 hours too long with many scenes so dragged out. Love the series but the pace can be sooooo slow. Listen to it at at least 1.25 speed is my advice.

Took a while for anything to happen but eventually delivered the goods. This is a light hearted read as long as you can stomach the over Americanism. It’s so weird how these American sci fi authors celebrate the standard American diet (think Cheeseburgers etc) even though it’s the standard American diet is literally killing their people through epidemic obesity, heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

Loved this book. Such an entertaining storyline. So great to have Australian English rather than American English narrators.

Final instalment was about 10 hours too long. Such drawn out torture scenes that added no real value to the storyline. For a teen novel such lingering in gratuitous violence is disturbing, but the author is American and they are raised on violent entertainment, so perhaps to be expected. If you can stomach the horrible American-English and mispronounced English language the story is a good fantasy fiction escape. This final book is not as good a story as the previous instalment but is does provide closure.

This has been my favourite audio book this year. A beautiful story told by a brilliant narrator. So nice to have an Australian accent tell the story with such a well spoken voice. It’s so nice not have to listen to awful American- English narrators.

Book 2 was a more engaging storyline and less puerile than book 1. The action was more interesting and the story advanced at a better pace. The narrator was much better in book 2 as well. The cringeworthy American pronunciation of English words grated a bit, ‘dual’ pronounced ‘do all’ for example. I wish these books used narrators who spoke more international English rather than that dumbed down American English. Alas if you look past the awful American English narration for fans of fantasy fiction the story is good imho.

Another great story but lots of issues with the audio file not having a consistent volume making it too hard to listen to when out and about in the world. Just as I got the volume right the narrator started yelling in some scenes which then made it momentarily too loud.

Love the story but found the heavy American accent and wrong pronunciation of words distracting. A great story like this needs to sound more global rather than American-centric.

As someone else said in their review it’s a really purile storyline. If you can stomach the overuse of 21st Century American pop cultural references ( the author even managed to bring in Jesus to the storyline) its a good trashy sci fi novel with some humour.

Book 5 was an excellent book with multiple separate stories happening at the same time. I found this book hard to stop listening to.
