Story
Meet the ultra-rational Dr Newton Barlow. Cool, cynical, scientific, he’s the last man you’d want to be a bridge between the living and the dead. But with his academic reputation in tatters, and nothing to lose but his few remaining marbles, the great skeptic is about to discover that the past that haunts him will be nothing compared to his ghost-ridden future.

This book was brilliantly narrated. It takes a while to build up to the main story but it is worth it. I restarted a few times but really enjoyed the story once I had the attention to go with the seemingly random jumping from story to story a t the beginning. The author's sense of humour made the exposition quite fun as well.

This narrator brings the story to life. He is amazing. The characters are fun to spend time with and evolve rather nicely.

Story
What can we say, without giving too much away? Not much, is the answer. But what we CAN say is that this book is hilarious, it’s tense, and it’s packed with all the eye-popping action, crackling one liners and imaginative set pieces you’ve come to expect. There’s a new threat to our plucky heroine, of course. But that’s not all. There’s also the little fact of the Big Bad, the uber-baddy who’s going to come along and really, really destroy the world. (Really.)

Story
Mercy and her sister Charity live in a twilight world, going to bed just as the sun rises. Their house remains shrouded in perpetual winter, each day unfolding exactly the same as the last. Mercy has never questioned her widowed father about the way they live and why, until one day, she wakes up to find a snowdrop on her pillow: a first sign of spring and a nod towards a new future. A meeting with the mysterious Claudius unsettles Mercy and starts her on a winding path through the family's history.

great little gothic for young readers.

This was beautifully narrated and a really good example of the genre. Singleton shows a strong respect for what is appropriare for young readers and still creates a chilling gothic mystery.
