Matilda Wormwood is an extraordinary genius with really stupid parents. Miss Trunchbull is her terrifying headmistress who thinks all her pupils are rotten little stinkers. But Matilda will show these horrible grown-ups that even though she's only small, she's got some very powerful tricks up her sleeve....

My kids aged 12 and 7 years, my Mum aged 74 years, and I (never mind about my age!!), had the pleasure of listening to "Matilda" in the car during a school holiday trip. We all enjoyed it immensely, beautifully brought to life by Kate Winslet. Highly recommend this book!!!

'It was the best of times, it was the worst of times'; so the recording begins and ends with some of Dickens's best-known words, and between those lines is every Briton's view of the worst excesses of the French Revolution. Set in London and Paris before and during the French Revolution, the audiobook tells the story of a French doctor who is imprisoned for 18 years in the Bastille in Paris. Upon his release, he moves to London with his daughter, Lucie, whom he had never met.

A Tale of Two Cities is one of those "classic" novels that we all "should" read ....... I'm very, very happy that I made the decision to have Martin Jarvis read it to me!!!!! A sweeping tale, beautifully brought to life by Mr Jarvis. Highly recommended (have a tissue handy for the final chapter).

The world will end on Saturday. Next Saturday. Just before dinner, according to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, the world's only completely accurate book of prophecies, written in 1655. The armies of Good and Evil are amassing, and everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except that a somewhat fussy angel and a fast-living demon are not actually looking forward to the coming Rapture. And someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist.

Enjoyed this book immensely, from start to finish. Listeners born after 1970 might struggle with some of the references.
