Warbreaker is the story of two sisters who happen to be princesses, the God King one of them has to marry, the lesser god who doesn't like his job, and the immortal who's still trying to undo the mistakes he made hundreds of years ago. Their world is one in which those who die in glory return as gods to live confined to a pantheon in Hallandren's capital city and where a power known as BioChromatic magic is based on an essence known as breath that can be collected only one unit at a time from individual people.

Brilliant and original fantasy
Warbreaker is an excellent novel set in a deep world with an unusual magical and religious system. Sanderson has created a fascinating and detailed setting for his novel: I loved the awakening system and the cultural history he's created to base this new series in. The story follows a strong plot, with satisfying twists and turns along the way, and is brought to life by its cast of characters who are (mostly) a joy (to be fair, Vivenna was meant to be a pain—she had a pretty big arc to follow before she could become likable). Each of these characters is wonderfully realised (even the sword), with several providing a perfect dose of humour along the way (here, I have to single out Lightsong and Nightblood).
The Audible production was excellent, and Bresnahan does a wonderful job of narrating. I definitely recommend reading this book (or listening to the audiobook).
