I really enjoyed this book. It was haunting, heartbreaking in places and the drip feed of information surrounding the murder kept me interested throughout. Beautifully written and narrated.

I normally quite like Marian Keyes but this audiobook version is hard going. I found her narration hard to follow, especially as there are a ridiculously large number of characters. The pronunciation of certain words was just... odd - I've never heard breathed said with the emphasis on the "ed" before and there many other strange occurrences which I found distracting at best. Overall, a different narrator could have helped improve this but the whole premise of the book, jumping around in time, topical elements such as poverty and immigration which felt shoe-horned in, all left me cold. Would not recommend.

The book itself is a beautiful depiction of love and friendship surviving through the most horrendous atrocities. It was almost ruined for me, however, by the terrible audio quality. Jarring changes of tone and amateurish editing throughout the narration are extremely distracting and at times made me want to stop listening.
I recommend buying the book in paper/kindle format rather than audiobook - very disappointing production.
