My parents spent time in Bonegilla but we never really spoke about it. This story took me there and I could imagine how it was for my mother, father and brother who moved to this far away country for the hope of a new life. The rules and expectations of the time-what you should and shouldn’t do and the costs all so well represented. My mum could have been Elisabethe (her name was Else), even at the moving end of the story. The narrator was wonderful. I don’t normally like when the narrator switches accents but Jennifer was fantastic. Thanks for writing this story!

This was one of those stories that I really got into. The narration was perfect (no putting on extreme accents) and the story was told in an interesting way that sometimes had me thinking that I’d accidentally gone back to a previous chapter.

Maybe needed to start this series at the beginning. Maybe I'm not into the American narrators. Either way, I couldn't finish this book.

Finally I got to listen to a Brené Brown book - on my recommenced reading book for ages -and I loved it. It is my new bible. It has given me both a confidence and a validation (for the time I’ve been in the wilderness, but didn’t think to call it that). Empowering. And it is so good to listen to Brené Brown narrating the book.

I've enjoyed most of this series, but this story line was so unbelievable it was amazing.

I’d give both the performance and story a 6 if I could

This isn’t a genre I would normally read but was so pleasantly surprised as the story unfolded, I was carried along on the journey of Jane. My only criticism is that the ending seemed abrupt and a number loose ends not tied. A sequel coming I guess. The reader captured the dialogue, especially of Jane, perfectly.

I’m into Nordic crime but for some reason I couldn’t get into this book. I found the many characters confusing and couldn’t relate to / bond with any of them. I persevered to the end hoping it would get better but it didn’t.

What a delightful book. It was enjoyable and confronting at the same time. There were many moments that I shed a tear (or two). Handling death, finding relevance, dealing with community, understanding your values. Beautiful.

I found this book fascinating from start to finish. What I loved was: 1. That it was narrated by the author, 2. Taboo topics were discussed, 3. The insight into a world which I will never venture.

It took some time to get into it, but then...

This book grew on me the longer I listened to it. It was recommended to me by a friend, so luckily I perservered with the early part and then became captivated by the journey.
