When we seek comfort and relief from stress, Tara Brach teaches, we often unconsciously turn to false refuges such as material wealth, approval from others, or a preoccupation with the past and future. Yet by cultivating true refuge in this moment, not only can we find shelter from the storms of life but we also open ourselves up to fully experiencing joy and fulfillment. Here, Tara Brach guides a meditation using the therapeutic R.A.I.N. process for releasing fear and healing through self-compassion.

The meditation at the end is so very worthwhile. Best thing to learn how to be kind to myself in situations I find difficult, especially my addiction. It helped me stand back from myself in a loving caring way. RAIN is really useful and I am glad I purchased this. I could listen to it again and again to help heal my negative self.

Jaxie dreads going home. His mum’s dead. The old man bashes him without mercy, and he wishes he was an orphan. And then, in one terrible moment, his life is stripped to little more than what he can carry and how he can keep himself alive. There’s just one person left in the world who understands him and what he still dares to hope for. But to reach her he’ll have to cross the vast saltlands on a trek that only a dreamer or a fugitive would attempt.

Very gritty story. Written in the first person the language is a rough vernacular. Some people may not like the frequent use of the f*** word. However it is a story about a very tough young male. It took me a while to get used to having a female voice narrate for a young teenage character, but Kate was excellent. After I settled into the style I couldn't put the book down. The depth in the writing is awesome.

Brutha is the Chosen One. His god has spoken to him, admittedly while currently in the shape of a tortoise. Brutha is a simple lad. He can't read. He can't write. He's pretty good at growing melons. And his wants are few. He wants to overthrow a huge and corrupt church. He wants to prevent a horribly holy war.

Provocative, fantastical tale about belief, god, church politics, war, and human tendencies with the usual pithy Terry Pratchett humour at its best. Couldn't put it down or turn Audible off...I was hooked because The Turtle Moves!
