About this listen
Please note: this podcast includes discussion of mature themes including suicide and murder. Listener discretion is advised.
First Australians should also know that this podcast includes the names and stories of people who have died.
Days after Richard Dorrough violently takes his own life at a public gun range in Perth, Western Australia, his fiancée receives a parcel from him in the post - a book filled with the former sailor’s handwriting. She starts to read and, horrified by the chilling confession inside it, quickly hands the book to police....
Suicides rarely get reported. But reporters Dan Box and Kate Wild believe this unnerving public death is worthy of further explanation. Exploring what made Dorrough take his life leads the pair to the country’s far corners, to uneasy truths about race and prejudice in the criminal justice system and to questions about how we tell true crime stories.
In the process they start to understand that Dorrough took much more than just his own life.

Brilliant unaffected investigative journalism, creatively executed
This podcast stands head and shoulders above the now ubiquitous ‘True Crime’ podcasts and is unaffected investigative journalism, yet beautifully creatively executed story - brilliant music and sound design!

Great effort guys
Well researched thus great podcast.. Condolences to families of all those who have gone through the loss of a loved one at the hands of evil.
And many thanks to all those who joined you either on tape or behind the scenes.
I'd definitely be interested in any other content that you both put out whether it be individually or jointly. I thought that you both complimented each other.
Thanks for the background of his selfish suicide. I remember this shooting as I live in Perth WA.

Bloodguilt
Bloodguilt:
A really very different “true crime” podcast. And being different made this very, very palatable. It was victim centred, whilst still being able to explore the “why” of the perpetrator… which circled back to the hope of discovering “who” the third victim was.
Dan Box’s podcasts have always been fascinating, caring, with a focus on missing and murdered indigenous individuals, and more people should listen to them. His work is as important as it is interesting.
Congratulations Dan and Kate.

Intriguing and slightly unsettling
Loved it. Could not step away.
Well researched, beautifully narration and production.
Unsettling because the honesty of the people involved and the narrators shows how close we all are to being victims of people like the subject of this piece.
Also puts the media's presentation of the "facts" of these crimes into perspective when people are reduced to one dimensional images to serve the agendas of those publishing the stories.
I'd be keen to hear more from this team.

Bloodguilt
This was easy listening and very well researched. It bought up some excellent points about how some women are viewed and therefore they are prejudice against. A great listen
