Michael Wegman is a retired U.S. Navy Commander whose nearly thirty-six-year career spanned enlisted service through senior leadership, shaping his lifelong understanding of discipline, consequence, and moral responsibility. Born in Spain and raised on military bases in Ohio and Eastern North Carolina, he grew up in a large family where early work on tobacco and hog farms instilled a lasting work ethic and respect for earned outcomes. Following his retirement from active duty in 2014, Michael transitioned into education, teaching high school NJROTC and continuing today as a substitute educator. His writing draws heavily on lived experience—leadership under pressure, institutional systems, and the quiet personal costs of service—bringing authenticity and emotional weight to his fiction. Outside of writing, Michael is an avid artist and painter, a long-distance backpacker, and a downhill snow skier. He is a member of the North Carolina Writers’ Network and the Military Writers Society of America. Michael has been married to his high school sweetheart, Carolyn, since 1980. They live in Eastern North Carolina and are the proud parents of two grown daughters, two sons-in-law, and three grandchildren.
