Mary Brooke Casad has written a series of books about an armadillo named Bluebonnet, detailing Bluebonnet's travels around Texas. The Louisiana native was first introduced to armadillos while camping in the Texas Hill Country.
The Bluebonnet Armadillo Adventure Series teaches children about Texas history and geography as she explores Texas landmarks and makes new friends. On each adventure, Bluebonnet meets new friends. Together, they explore, learn, and find answers to puzzling circumstances causing them to become friends forever. Imagination and reality come together mixing history with modern day experiences to show children the value of reading and the magic of writing!
Casad also co-authored a Christian discipleship study, The Basics, with her brother, Dr. Clayton Oliphint. The books, Citizens of Hope, The Road to Amazing, and Get in the Game, are designed for small-group discussion or personal spiritual growth. Written for busy people, both new and maturing disciples, the 12-session study focuses on Christian identity, practice and service.
Her book for young readers, “Scepter of the Universe,” is a biography of the 20th century missionary evangelist E. Stanley Jones. Published by the E. Stanley Jones Foundation, Dr. Jones’ life story is told by an Indian boy named Hira Lal, who seeks to become a follower of Jesus after hearing Dr. Jones preach. This book is especially appropriate for young disciples attending confirmation classes.
Mary Brooke is a graduate of University High School, Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas, and also studied at Harlaxton College, Grantham, England. An active United Methodist layperson, she has served many United Methodist organizations in both volunteer and professional capacities. She currently resides in Richardson, Texas with her husband, Rev. Dr. Victor Casad, a retired United Methodist clergyman.
