Leonardo Espinoza Benavides, known as Leo, is a Chilean physician and award-winning science fiction writer. His work blends medicine, science, and literary experimentation, drawing on his background as a dermatologist and venereologist with studies in psychodermatology, immunology, and astronomy. He is the author of “Más espacio del que soñamos” (2018), “Adiós, loxonauta” (2020), recognized by the International Latino Book Awards and winner of Chile’s Altísimo Award 2022, and “Nomadismos del tiempo trifráctico” (2022). His stories have reached readers in Latin America, Europe, the US, and China, with highlights in Sci Phi Journal and Science Fiction World. He has also appeared in Future Fiction Magazine (2024). Active in global fandom, he has worked with FUTURE·CON, served on the Program Staff of Worldcon Seattle 2025, and is an invited mentor at Chongqing’s Future Creation Workshop. In Chile, he helps organize ALCIFFCON, a leading national convention of science fiction and fantasy that brings together authors, readers, and fans from Chile, Latin America, and beyond. He serves on the board of the Chilean SF&F Association (ALCIFF) and is a member of SFWA. He lives in Santiago with his wife, their baby Máximo, and Hulky the dog.
