Dr. Kamel S. Abu Jaber (1932–2020) received his PhD from Syracuse University and did a postdoctoral programme in Oriental studies at Princeton University. Following an academic career in the United States, he returned to Jordan to pursue an extensive academic career as Professor of Political Science and Dean of the College of Economics & Commerce at the University of Jordan. He also assumed a political career becoming Minister of Economy in 1973, Minister of Foreign Affairs in 1991, heading the joint Jordanian-Palestinian delegation to the Madrid Peace Conference. He also served as Senator in the Jordanian Parliament. Other positions include: Director, Jordan University’s Center for Strategic Studies; Director, Queen Alia Social Welfare Fund; President, the Jordanian Institute of Diplomacy; President, Higher Council for Media; President, Royal Institute for Interfaith Studies; President, Jordan Institute for Middle Eastern Studies. An internationally recognised scholar, well known and respected statesman, Dr. Kamel S. Abu Jaber has written many articles and books, among them The Arab Ba’ath Socialist Party (1966), The Jordanians (1980), The Palestinians: People of the Olive Tree (1993) and Sheepland (2005).
