I was the first of four children adopted by Bruce and Julia Aycock. Our family lived first in San Antonio, Texas, then moved to Amarillo in 1970. I graduated from Alamo Catholic High School in 1975, then over the next twenty or so years meandered through Amarillo College, Del Mar College (Corpus Christi, Texas), St. Mary's University (San Antonio, Texas), and the University of Texas at Austin. Somehow I managed to avoid actually finishing any degree. In 1997 I married Mary Miller. She and I had been co-workers at the Perry Casteneda Library at U.T. Mary earned her MLS from U.T., then got a job with the University of Missouri at the Rolla campus. While we were in Rolla, I finally completed a B.S. in Elementary Education at Drury University. It was during those years that Windstorm Creative published my little book, "David and Dad Catch the Rainbow". The original version of the story was rejected by a number of other publishers several years earlier. That version was called "Old Crock and Racoon", and recounted an adventure they and several of their woodland friends had together. The idea for the story arose from a actual adventure that happened when I was in first grade in Jourdanton, Texas. My brothers and sister and I, and our dad, were flying kites one day. Dad got the idea to use a fishing rod and reel instead of plain old kite string. And then... :) Unfortunately, the original publisher folded. But now a new edition of David & Dad Catch the Rainbow, produced using CreateSpace, is available. Also available now, is an audiobook edition of this book, produced by myself through Audiobook Creation Exchange (ACX). I hope readers and listener alike will enjoy David & Dad's adventure and find, as one reader so kindly commented, "Excellent family values without beating you over the head with the idea. Kids will get lost in the world Aycock creates and wish their fathers were as cool as David's". -Kristi L. Sprinkle Mary and I lived in Columbia, Missouri for a few years, then moved back to Rolla in 2011. We live a little south of town on about five acres and are active in a local animal welfare group (Phelps County Animal Welfare League, www.pcawl.org), particularly encouraging spaying and neutering of companion animals. We are also purposefully vegan and are active on Facebook. My personal website is at www.davidkaycock.info., where more stories and some poetry are available to read and listen to. Come visit!
