I like the technique the author used of breaking the book up into the separate points of view of each brother. I found it easy to follow and certainly interesting in many ways. The problem I had was that I simply didn't like the characters. At all. While it's true that some books aren't meant to have likeable characters, the thing is that even when reading a book as potentially depressing as "Angela's Ashes", for instance, I found much in that particular book that I enjoyed and could identify with. However, in this book I finished the first section on the first brother and thought to myself, "Well, he's obviously not very likeable. Maybe the next brother will be the one I can root for." Then I went through both other brothers and found them thoroughly unlikable as well. Each one was just completely self-involved and none seemed to understand the word "empathy." Their Mother certainly demonstrated self-involvement to them on a daily basis. Their Father was generally likeable but also extremely ineffective.
