About this listen
Loosely inspired by a true story, this tender portrait of marriage asks: what do you do when the person you love has to change?
It starts with a question, a simple favour asked by a wife of her husband while both are painting in their studio, setting off a transformation neither can anticipate.
Uniting fact and fiction into an original romantic vision, The Danish Girl eloquently portrays the unique intimacy that defines every marriage and the remarkable story of Lili Elbe, a pioneer in transgender history, and the woman torn between loyalty to her marriage and her own ambitions and desires.
The Danish Girl is an evocative and deeply moving novel about one of the most passionate and unusual love stories of the 20th century. Now a major motion picture starring Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander, directed by Tom Hooper.

The fact that it's based on a true story. Quite a remarkable story at that.If you’ve listened to books by David Ebershoff before, how does this one compare?
Never read/listened to his books before but I'm sure I'll give another title a whirl at some point.Would you listen to another book narrated by Joe Jameson?
Not sure quite frankly. I found Gerta's accent quite grating (piercing at times). In addition, I felt that he was trying too hard to sound like Eddie Redmayne when reading Einar's parts and in the process, losing much of the feeling. That said, I wouldn't rule out a book I wanted to read simply because he was narrating.Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No laughter, that's for sure! Actually, no tears either.Any additional comments?
I know it was based on a true story so the ending was limited by this, however, I did find the ending quite unremarkable. I guess this was disappointing. Much like real life in that respect!Lovely story but narration unconvincing
