Summary
I thought I was finally learning to live again.
For the first time in years, I'm allowing myself to believe in more than just survival. Adrian, Theo, and Kenji give me hope—a glimmer of possibility that I can move forward, that maybe, just maybe, I deserve happiness.
But Rolling Hills is changing, and not for the better. Strange things are happening—more zombies, things going missing, more deaths—and I can't help but wonder if the peace we've built is about to crumble.
Every time I think I can take a step forward, the ground beneath me crumbles. I want to believe we can have a future, but how do you keep hope alive when everything in this world wants to crush it?
Can I protect the people I care about without losing myself in the process? Or will everything I'm trying to hold on to slip away once again?
This is a full-length book. It is part two of a two-part duet and is a why-choose romance, meaning the heroine will not have to choose between the three heroes. HEA guaranteed! Please listen to book one before downloading this one.

©2025 S.A. Ashburne (P)2025 Podium AudioThis second instalment is far more interesting than book one. The introduction of a religious group trying to cleanse the new world finally adds the depth and tension the story needed.
The pacing is better but still uneven. Some filler chapters slow things down and the plot has a noticeable start stop rhythm. When the story moves it is genuinely gripping.
Relationships remain the highlight. The romance and friendships shine while the story explores grief, distrust and survival in a post apocalyptic world. The world building continues to expand in satisfying ways.
The book picks up right after the Holden cliffhanger but the resolution is strangely anticlimactic and he is quickly forgotten. The dramatic reactions that follow feel wildly over the top.
Farron’s secret is also treated as far more shocking than it actually is. The fear that the three men who love her will abandon her for being a “monster” feels exaggerated.
The audiobook itself is high quality. The narrators deliver strong performances with clear character voices. It uses dual narration rather than true duet or full cast, which feels like a missed opportunity. Listening slightly sped up improves the pacing.
Overall this duet has a great premise and strong world building. The writing just never quite reaches the potential of the idea.
