Story
Our universe is ruled by physics, and faster-than-light travel is not possible - until the discovery of The Flow, an extradimensional field we can access at certain points in space-time that transports us to other worlds, around other stars. Humanity flows away from Earth, into space, and in time forgets our home world and creates a new empire, the Interdependency, whose ethos requires that no one human outpost can survive without the others. It's a hedge against interstellar war - and a system of control for the rulers of the empire.

Story
All Systems Red is the tense first science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.

We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Publisher's Summary
The Last Emperox is the thrilling conclusion to the award-winning, New York Times and USA Today best-selling Interdependency series, an epic space opera adventure from Hugo Award-winning author John Scalzi.
The collapse of The Flow, the interstellar pathway between the planets of the Interdependency, has accelerated. Entire star systems - and billions of people - are becoming cut off from the rest of human civilization. This collapse was foretold through scientific prediction...and yet, even as the evidence is obvious and insurmountable, many still try to rationalize, delay and profit from, these final days of one of the greatest empires humanity has ever known.
Emperox Grayland II has finally wrested control of her empire from those who oppose her and who deny the reality of this collapse. But "control" is a slippery thing, and even as Grayland strives to save as many of her people form impoverished isolation, the forces opposing her rule will make a final, desperate push to topple her from her throne and power, by any means necessary. Grayland and her thinning list of allies must use every tool at their disposal to save themselves, and all of humanity. And yet it may not be enough.
Will Grayland become the savior of her civilization...or the last emperox to wear the crown?

Excellent narration, ending only ok
Really enjoyed Wheaton's narration, probably the best of any ive heard on audible. I'm also a big fan of this series, it's universe and characters. Unfortunately I found the ending somewhat unsatisfying, it's not bad but not the same standard as the rest of the series probably because the final act seems a bit rushed. It almost feels like there are a few chapters missing (ie planned but then abandoned, not that it doesn't make sense). Overall still a great book and a great series which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Great mainstream Sci Fi
John Scalzi is up there with the greats of sci-fi. This series reminds me of Asimov's Foundation trilogy in the way it has politicians, scientists and military all fighting when Galactic collapse is staring them in the face. Scalzi is an expert at bringing characters in and out of the action. A bit more swearing than usual but it fits the characters. Wil Wheaton (one of my favourites) does a good job, but rushes some of the scenes. Still better than almost all
