Publisher's Summary

THE NUMBER ONE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER, JULY 2023

When frantic, dishevelled Edie Ledwell appears in the office begging to speak to her, private detective Robin Ellacott doesn't know quite what to make of the situation. The co-creator of a popular cartoon, The Ink Black Heart, Edie is being persecuted by a mysterious online figure who goes by the pseudonym of Anomie. Edie is desperate to uncover Anomie's true identity.

Robin decides that the agency can't help with this - and thinks nothing more of it until a few days later, when she reads the shocking news that Edie has been tasered and then murdered in Highgate Cemetery, the location of The Ink Black Heart.

Robin and her business partner Cormoran Strike become drawn into the quest to uncover Anomie's true identity. But with a complex web of online aliases, business interests and family conflicts to navigate, Strike and Robin find themselves embroiled in a case that stretches their powers of deduction to the limits - and which threatens them in new and horrifying ways . . .

A gripping, fiendishly clever mystery, The Ink Black Heart is a true tour-de-force.

Amazing performance of a great book.

Excellent writing, performance and story. Listened to it on a 2000km drive and was entertained the whole time. I've seen some undeserved negative press about the book in relation to the author. I didn't find the story controversial or the criticism valid at all.

Had to stop to read it

Fabulous book but I couldn’t stand to listen to Strike’s voice as read by the narrator. I had to stop and read the book instead. Disappointed as I was so looking forward to a good long listen for long drives.

Not the best!

I have enjoyed all of the other Cormran Strike books but this one was not up to standard. There seem to be too many suspects & the dialogue containing computer texts was very hard to follow & I found boring. Let’s hope the next book is better.

Keep going Strike

Robert Galbraith is a wonderful writer. Thanks to J. K. Rowling. A great look into the continued story of Strike’s and Robyn Ellacott’s life, both in the private detective work and in their private life complications. Wonderfully long book! Robert Glenister is an enormous talent, and his voice is just great.

Audio May not have been the best choice

The story and the voice actor are good, but the plot gets quite complicated with all the private chats in the game and it was hard to keep up with who was who. I think this is one of those novels that may be better to read in print rather than listen to.

Rather long and needlessly drawn out

We are huge Strike fans and were excited to get this one. Perhaps it would be easier to read, but listening to all the Twitter posts and in game chat with mile long strings of user details read out, made it very difficult to follow and at times outright boring. Often a 15 minute string of posts could have been summed up in a few sentences.
The background story of Cormoran and Robyn was good but the main case in this book was below par. Hopefully the next one goes back to the old formula.

Enjoyed but painful in parts

Beautifully written (as usual). I enjoyed the story and how it kept you guessing until the end. The only downside was that the tweets were pretty painful to listen to. I'd imagine it's not so much of an issue if you were reading the book, but being read streams of Twitter handles was quite tedious.
