Just monumentally dumb. And for what i can only assume is to add more plot devices. Spare a person who is consorting with greater demons to hunt him down and murder him, his friends, as well as kidnapping him and them. Leave him alone because he didn't do it PERSONALLY.Comes across a mage who for the last 100 years or so has been committing mass murder to lengthen her life through innocent peoples death. Changes her into an immortal creature with supreme powers. Sure that makes sense. Just to find the person he spared the day earlier. The writing wasn't too bad, i enjoyed a lot of the book. But there were so many resoundingly stupid moral dilemmas and choices made by the character that the author chose, i can only assume it was to add to the view of the main character being a just and moral person who only kills truly evil people. Unless they tried to kill him multiple times through their agents. Then he waits to be offender by said people personally, and goes on a killing spree catching many innocent bystanders in his 'righteous revenge'.Very 2 dimensional characters.
