Kory was having enough trouble in high school. His girlfriend just dumped him, his poetry made him a target for ridicule, and college applications were looming. The very last thing he needed was to fall in love with another boy.

This is hands down one of the best books I have ever read. The characters feel very human (ironically) and relatable. Gives a great preapective on LGBT relationships and really pulls on the heart strings. Really didn't want this one to end.
This is one of the best books I have ever read. It felt relatable, and realistic, aside from them being furries. I cried, laughed and felt engaged with every character from start to finish. A wonderfully crafted story, that is sadly missing another book. The performance from the narrator was actually extremely good and engaging. Overall, I can't fault this story and I can't wait to read it again. :)
"Great story! Gives me a new perspective on its subject!"
I loved the story. Being a straight man, I used to not think much about homosexual people. Now I have great sympathy for them, because I realize that they often have to go through a great deal of pain and grief just to be able to show affection for someone they truly care about. This book actually made me cry, which is a nearly impossible feat for a book.
It also helps that all of the characters are furries! I'm sorry, but anthropomorphic animals will always be cuter to me than humans.
"Great story plus great narrator"
I would definitely recommend this audiobook to my friends because I know they will fall in love with the characters and the story like I did when I first read this book back in 2009.
Waterways has been one of my favorite book from Kyell Gold. Ever since I first read this story, the characters has provided inspirations for me during difficult times of my life. I find myself relating to the things that happen to Kory in the story, some of which parallel what was going on in my life at the time. I've read and re-read both the entire book and sections from the story multiple times and it helped me find the strength to believe I can get through the obstacles I was facing and that things get better. Then there were a couple years during which some very big events of my life took place and in that time I hadn't been able to revisit Waterways and many other books that I greatly enjoyed. However, when I saw the author's blog post about the audiobook release, I did not hesitate in clicking the add to cart and buy button and listening to the story felt like falling in love all over again. I was pleased that I remember all the things that happens in the book, but what came as a surprised for me was that it was a completely different experience than before. The past 3 or 4 years of my life had changed me and my outlook on things tremendously, but when listening to the story, I was reminded of a younger, more naive version of myself by Kory while at the same time I was seeing how much I had changed and grown. By the time I finished listening to the audiobook, I felt a sense that I also came out on the other side of my struggles just as Kory did with his.
Robert Clark's narration is by far my favorite from the audiobooks I listened to on audible, albeit I've only listened to about 7 different narrators so far. He puts so much life into each of the characters that I love and hate. I would definitely like to check out other books he narrates.
Yes, it was really emotional for me, I cried and laugh and rewind to listen to specific scenes over and over.
"One of my first books I could ever get into"
Yes. This book has had an emotional impact on me.
The connectivity that you can have with the characters
He reads smooths and understandable
It made me cry and feel emotionally secure
I recommend this book to anyone of the LGBT community.
"absolutely beautiful story"
The story of Kory and Samiki hit me very hard for personal reasons. I cheered and many times cried with everything impacting their lives. I'd love to see a continuation of these characters; but I'm satisfied with the beautiful ending filled with hope.
"I just finished waterways, and it was amazing"
I can say with certainty it is worth checking out considering I bought it on audible yesterday afternoon and just finished it, and it's 12 hours long haha, anyways, seriously I recommend it, it's a gay drama romantic and has its fair share of romantic yet hilarious moments and some sad depressing ones too, but it adds to the sheer joy of listening to this book and it made me feel so warm inside after listening, I will definitely Re-listen soon.
"A must read/listen!!"
For anyone looking for a good story, memorable and vivid characters (furry) and/or answers for their sexuality, this book is is truly something you should treasure in your library!
As a young adult who is 95% sure about his sexuality (believe it or not, not homosexual), only experience I had had from Kyell Golds books was "Bridges". Where Bridges was more steamy and sexual action filled "something to fap to" Kind of a book, Waterways was different in a good way. Though less sexual intercourses happened, this book paid itself back with the feels! After the first time listening I just couldn't believe it was over... I wanted more of Kory's and Samaki's story, but unfortunately this is so far (afaik) only book in their story...
Now, after listening it for second time, I (unfortunately) have to leave the book alone for a while, so I can sometime in future truly enjoy the story again!
This fantastic roller coaster of emotions delves deep into a very tough subject for many people. Every one has a different experience when coming out, and I feel this was a great story of no matter how bad it gets there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I found a lot of similarities between the characters and myself giving me a very fulfilling experience. I can't wait to read more from kyell gold.
I don't think I ever listened to an entire audio book before, but a friend had me listen to part of this one in a long car ride and I instantly became hooked on both the story itself and the powerful narration.
"Coming to terms"
When I first read this book a little over a year and a half ago it helped me through my realization that I was different. the character Kory I felt was very relatable sharing some of the sane fears as I did when I was trying cone to terms with my attractions. I'm so glad that the book was given the audio performance it so rightly deserved. Thank you K. Gold for creating this novel.
"Amazing book with a very great meaning."
this book is written more towards the furry community but the meaning behind the story is very real and something alot of teens deal with in today's society. this was an amazingly well written book. will recommend to other listeners
"Furry Romance at it's finest"
Waterways is a masterpiece in deep emotional furry romance, it made me laugh and cry on multiple occasions and I really felt for each and every character, it is so amazingly and realistically written, I want to live in the world of this novel.
Kyell Gold has managed to capture my heart with the tale of Kory and Samaki, the book is highly relatable for me and it has a very special place in my heart.
Not only is the writing so amazingly realistic and well done, the narration is also flawless, making this a novel you will want to listen to time and time again, start to finish, with no breaks.
after reading the out of position series by Mr kyell gold I was excited to read waterways and of course I was not disappointed, the string of good and bad situations in the story made it relatable and enjoyable.
highly recommended this wonderful novel
