But her blossoming beauty isn't the only reason for their change in behavior. For as Belly enjoys the sun and surf, she'll ultimately learn the painful secret that dampens the spirit of her childhood friends.

"Romantic and heartbreakingly real ... the beautifully written novel ... perfectly blends romance, family drama, and a coming-of-age tale - one that is substantially deeper than most." (Library Journal)

"Come on Conrad you know you want Belly"
I loved both the print and audio versions. This is a book I can re-read or listen to it over and over again.
"TEARS AND BEAUTY!"
The story is so fresh and beautiful! It makes you feel as if you are getting to spend the summer at the beach house in Cousins!
The whole book is memorable, but its just the beginning for Belly....
Belly for sure
"Great coming of age story"
This book was very good. The author takes you from the present to the past to give you insight on all the characters and how they grew up together.
As a plot : i found the story was good with very relate-able characters and good dialogue
As an Audio book it was good but the narrator is so SLOW and i got bored at the middle of the book until i fast forward it into 2×
but you can read it if you like a bed time story teller
I picked up this book because I have read a couple of other books by Jenny Han. When I was a couple chapters in the book I honestly thought It was going to be about a summer beach house and a love triangle story but the plot took an unexpected turn and the ending was quite satisfying to me. Besides that I could relate to a couple several moments that the character(s) had. I love how Jenny Han can describe those special/ weird feeling moments where one's stomach does all these flips and our checks get flustered and all words are lost. Had me curious and thinking about the ending. Will most likely pick up the second book in this series to see the outcome.
I loved this light summery read it's the first in a trilogy good type of book to maybe listen to the beach
I love this book series SOOO much! I'm a 15 year old girl, and I absolutely HATE any type of reading but that all changed with this book series!! I HIGHLY recommend all of the books!!
The story is sweet and beautiful. Can't wait to read the second book of this series. :)
Honestly? I'm only in the middle of it and don't know if I can tolerate finishing the story. I don't like to be mean to anyone, but the narrator & her style make me want to light a fire under her - she takes a lot of pauses where none should be taken (in my opinion).
It's a bit slow-moving. I have the next two books in the series and am hoping I can make it through. Ok, to be fair, I am realizing the deeper I get into the story that this series is more for teens, so it's not my era. But I want (and have) to say out loud "oh, grow up already" every time the lead female character retorts with "shut up...so-&-so"
Same opinion as already written. It will be difficult to listen to the next two books in the series if this woman is narrating
Yes...for young teens.
"I expected better from Jenny Han"
Maybe. It's a fun, light read, but it lacks substance.
I read both To All the Boys I've loved Before and the Ashes to Ashes trilogy. The Summer I
Turned Pretty doesn't compare, to say the least. I was surprised by the lack of plot. I'm pretty sure this was her first book, and she's improved tremendously since writing it.
Too many pauses. She has a nice voice; she's easy to listen to, but she takes so many unnecessary pauses. Her tendency to pause in the middle of sentences (I suppose for dramatic effect--though none is needed) makes for choppy listening. Also, in my opinion, the pauses in between character dialogue were far too long. It's a shame, because she has great potential, but I would have preferred listening to this book read by a different narrator.
Yes. I think it would actually make for an entertaining film (one of those cheesy teen rom-coms). As for the actors, a young Mandy Moore would play a good Belly. I can't decide who I'd like to see play the boys.
"I love this series so much."
I don't know how many times I've read this book since it was published but it feels right to re-read and re-listen to this series every spring when I know summer is just around the corner. I love the narrator's voice, her voice is how I imagine Belly's voice to be and she does bring the story into life with her narration. I totally recommend this audio book and I hope you'll love it as much as I do.
