Publisher's Summary

Marcus Flavius Aquila, a young centurion in Roman Britain, is forced into retirement after receiving a wound in his first major engagement against a rebel British tribe. It allows him the freedom to embark upon a dangerous mission to find out what happened to the Ninth Legion, which, years before, disappeared in the savage lands of the Picts. Will he find out what happened to the men, led by his father, who never returned? And will he recover the Eagle, the symbol of Roman dominance and power?

Critic Reviews

"Decades later, I can still hear echoes of The Eagle of the Ninth in my head: the chink of mail, the tired beat of the legionaries' feet." (The Independent)
"What a splendid story it is, compulsive reading!" (Junior Bookshelf)

Able to listen to this version over and over

The Eagle of the Ninth has been one of my favourite books for decades. This is an excellent audio version, my only criticism would be that it’s an abridged version. It would have been absolutely flawless otherwise.

Finally got to find out what happened

This book was set an an English book when I was in year 7 (over 30 years ago), I found it so boring then I didn't finish it (and my grade was appropriately bad that term). So now I have finally found out how it ends (another thing ticked off my bucket list!)
It's not as boring as I found it as a 13 year old... but the music at the end of each chapter is awful! Sorry, had to deducted a point for that.
