Publisher's Summary

When her grandfather dies, Tamar inherits a box containing a series of clues and coded messages. Out of the past another Tamar emerges, a man involved in the terrifying world of resistance fighters in Nazi-occupied Holland half a century earlier. His story is one of passionate love, jealousy, and tragedy set against the daily fear and casual horror of the Second World War. Unravelling it will transform the younger Tamar's life.

What made the experience of listening to Tamar the most enjoyable?

Great build of tension and the commitment of the narrators to build the characters and tense storyline. Its not just a good book - its a great AUDIBLE book, they bring it alive.

What other book might you compare Tamar to, and why?

Hard to say, part Sebastian Faulks, part C.J. Sansom. They both have aspects of tension, historical events, characters that struggle with the conflict between love and professional duty.

Which character – as performed by Anton Lesser and Anna Maxwell Martin – was your favourite?

Unfair question!! I adore listening to Anton Lesser, he draws the listener in and is completely believable in different characters, but Anna Maxwell Martin was wonderful as the young Tamar, you could really identify with her. A great combination.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Why have a movie when you've got the audible book and the images come alive in your mind??

    "Gripping Tale"
If you could sum up Tamar in three words, what would they be?

    Espionage, passion, betrayal

What did you like best about this story?

The vivid descriptions of people, places and events.

What does Anton Lesser and Anna Maxwell Martin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

The contrast between the action in 1945 and the events of 1985.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes, but I didn't!

    Any additional comments?

Highly recommended - not a dull moment. I was sorry that I got to the end!
