Ember Hill left the dragon organization Talon to take her chances with rebel dragon Cobalt and his crew of rogues. But Ember can't forget the sacrifice made for her by the human boy who could have killed her - Garret Xavier Sebastian, a soldier of the dragon-slaying Order of St. George, the boy who saved her from a Talon assassin, knowing that by doing so he'd signed his own death warrant.
Determined to save Garret from execution, Ember must convince Cobalt to help her break into the order's headquarters. With assassins after them and Ember's own brother helping Talon with the hunt, the rogues find an unexpected ally in Garret and a new perspective on the underground battle between Talon and St. George.
A reckoning is brewing, and the secrets hidden by both sides are shocking and deadly. Soon Ember must decide: Should she retreat to fight another day...or start an all-out war?

can't wait for next book. the narrators are very good. I recommend this series highly
"Julie Kagawa Does it AGAIN!"
Yes, I really enjoy this series and once all of the books have been released I am going to listen to them again in order back to back. Time always flies when listening to these books!
Ember because she reminds me of myself. She cares about her friends and family deeply and she fights for them. However, she never lets them push her around and she makes some pretty mature decisions for a 16 year old girl.
Each of the narrators did a wonderful job. They displayed the perfect balance of emotion and made it easier to feel their emotions. You really feel like you are getting into each character's mind to understand how they think -- no matter which narrator is speaking.
Yes, there were several -- most of them had to do with the former St. George soldier Garret and how he was dealing with the fact that not all Dragons are heartless killers. His character changed the most during this book and it was fun to watch.
If you like dragons and you don't mind thinking out of the box this book series is amazing. It is set in our modern world and is a little bit different than what I am traditionally used to seeing. However, this story is amazing and the characters are vibrant. I recommend reading/listening to Talon prior. It is the first book in the series and amazing as well.
"Amazing and Breathtaking"
The narrators who brought the characters to life. The story, the plot and everything.
Caitlin Davies from the Penryn and the End of Days series. MacLeod Andrews from The Iron Knight. Both are as great in this book as they were in their previous performances.
I loved it with every chapter. I've laughed, cried, got angry, experienced emotion and longing for the next book.
"Great Follow Up"
When Garret admits he loves Ember despite her being a dragon
The emotions that the different narrators are able to express adds layers to an all ready good story
This is a good follow-up to a good YA Novel. If you like the first book you will like this book.
This is a great new series by Kagawa. The story gripped me from the beginning and I can hardly wait for her to continue the series.
"Still with the series"
I am on the second book and plan to go on to the third, but Ember is too stupid to live. WOW - someone please write a smart female character. Spoiler Alert: The person that Ember confided in turned her in to be killed, so she says "Gee, I need to call the person that betrayed me and put everyone in danger". Told to stay put and out of sight lasts almost 15 minutes then onto "I'm bored, I need to go out in public and put everyone in danger, again". And her reaction to the two main male characters can be compared to a stray female cat in heat 365 24/7. Show some control - I know she said a 16 year old doesn't know much, but they also would not make it to 17 being that clueless. The Rogues need to call both sides to come get Ember, and run from her as fast as possible.
"People don't act this way"
Unrealistic. Combat in story is wrong.
Speaker is good, I'd be happy to listen to another book she reads.
"bored to death"
hated it, i fell asleep after the first chapter. the narrator is pitchy. the blurb and the story do not co exist. waste of money
Ember is too naive. I hope she wises up in the next book and realize that everyone can not be trusted. Great story.
"Fun Teen Fiction"
The story is fun since it has dragons, something I have a soft spot for, but the conflicted romance love triangle is a little too forced. The human guy seems to have depth with the relationship, the dragon guy's attraction feels pretty flat. There was some more time spent on developing 'the other guy' story ploy, it's just nothing that makes me feel like it would cause a true love triangle.
I do like that, in general, rather than having a lot of dialog that leaves me feeling like they just need to say something basic to clear up confusion, they just end up saying it. It feels much more realistic in that sense.
Otherwise, some of the plot twists are a little too basic, don't want to spoil anything though. The action is fun. My biggest complaint is that it just feels like the love triangle part is either unnecessary or too weak. I think it would have done better without being another 'which guy should she choose?' trilogy.
"English as a second language"
I enjoyed the story and light drama, but the tortuous English accent was distractingly painful.
