Sam McKenna has never turned down a dare. And she's not going to start with the last one her brother gave her before he died.
So Sam joins the first-ever class of girls at the prestigious Denmark Military Academy. She's expecting push-ups and long runs, rope climbing and mud crawling. As a military brat, she can handle an obstacle course just as well as the boys. She's even expecting the hostility she gets from some of the cadets who don't think girls belong there. What she's not expecting is her fiery attraction to her drill sergeant. But dating is strictly forbidden and Sam won't risk her future, or the dare, on something so trivial...no matter how much she wants him.
As Sam struggles to prove herself, she discovers that some of the boys don't just want her gone - they won't rest until she gives up. When their petty threats turn to brutal hazing, bleeding into every corner of her life, she realizes they are not acting alone. A decades-old secret society is alive and active...and determined to force her out.
At any cost.
Now time's running short. Sam must decide who she can trust...and choosing the wrong person could have deadly consequences.

"This girl kicks ass in the real world."
Lots of books out there with heroines from a post-apocalyptic dystopia, and some of them are great, but this book is refreshing because its heroine shines in the here and now.
It's similar to a lot of YA books in theme, but less universal because the setting and plot are distinctly modern.
Love the scene in which the main character comes to terms with and learns the truth behind the death of her brother (you learn he's died in the beginning). It's raw and real and her reaction is so true to character.
Proving she belongs might cost her life.
I really enjoyed this book. It was hard to stop listening. Each character was so well developed it made for an excellent story.
This storey was a little bit like an after school special. I usually like my books with a little more mystery but this book kept my attention. It moved very quickly and wasn't too predictable. All in all, I would recommend this book for a light.
"Alpha Leads The Way! GTE"
Excellent Book. It kept me hooked until the end and after hearing the story I almost feel like I made it through freshman year at DMA right along side Sam.
A must read for anyone who has gone through military school of any kind or wants to.
